Detsky Ostrov

Yesterday the girls and I went to Detsky Ostrov. It is a playground area on an island in the Vltava River. There is a footbridge that connects the land to the island. Here is a picture of the girls standing on the footbridge with the river behind them. It was a little windy on the footbridge but once you were on the island you didn't notice the wind at all.

The island is great. It is all fenced in so you don't have to worry about the kids falling into the river. It is also quite large. Towards the end there are some courts of some sort but I didn't take the time to look to see what they were. I was too busy running around watching the girls go from one toy to the next. Ali loved one of the swings there. There are very few parks in Prague that have actual baby swings but at least the swing that Ali loved at Detsky Ostrov was a small swing so I didn't have to worry about her going on it.

After we left the park we walked along the river for a bit. It was really neat because between the land and the island is the system of locks that the boats have to use to get around the water falls in the river so we got to watch the boats go through the locks. I didn't get a chance to really see it work in full since the I had to keep the girls entertained and I wasn't sure how long it would take so we just kept walking. By the time we reached the next bridge though all the boats had come through the locks. I tried to explain how it worked to Sofia but I don't have a full grasp on it myself so I will have to do a little internet research. Here is a picture of the boats coming through the locks.
