Thinking of Munich
I have been thinking about Munich and the things that I found interesting. The first thing that comes to mind is that there are so many bikes in Munich. I have never seen so many bikes in one place. It seems everyone rides a bike there. There are bike paths along all the rodes. As a pedestrian you not only have to watch out for cars when crossing the road but you have to watch out for bikes as well. You also have to make sure you aren't walking in the bike path when you are on the sidewalk. The second thing that was striking to me was that farmland abutted the city. It is the same here in Prague but in New England this is not the case so it was a bit startling to go from smelling manure one minute to being in the city the next. Thirds, There are not many dogs in Munich. I think we saw about 4 dogs all weekend. It was strange since it seems everyone in Prague has a dog. It was nice though to be able to sit on the grass in Munich and not worry about dog poop! Forth, everyone we spoke to was able to speak English. This was such a contrast to Prague. I feel like in Prague we can walk down the road and speak English and not everyone can understand us. It was strange being in a place where I couldn't understand them but they could understand me. It was nice to come back home to Prague and hear Czech being spoken again. Even though I can't understand a majority of what is being said I am comfortable with the sounds and rhythms of Czech.
